HISTORY: STORY BEHIND THE COMPANY

PEPSICO: ONE OF THE LARGEST FOOD AND BEVERAGE COMPANY IN THE WORLD
PepsiCo came into existence when the Pepsi-Cola Company was merged with Frito-Lay, Inc in 1965. It is one of the largest food and beverage selling companies in the world. Its products are available in more than 200 countries. Its headquarters is located in New York City.

In 1898, Celeb Bradham, a pharmacist, created this cola-flavored soft drink, hoping to find something the same as Coca-Cola but different at the same time. Formerly, it was known as Brad's Drink. When his product started to become famous, he founded the company Pepsi-Cola in 1902. He trademarked the name and started to sell the drinks throughout North Carolina. By 1911, his drink was sold throughout the 24 states.

FALLING OF PEPSICO

PepsiCo also has seen the ups and downs in its history. But one of the major problems that the company faced was during World War II. During this time, the supply of sugar became limited. Thus, all the soft- drink companies including PepsiCo were hassled. The price of sugar skyrocketed from 5.5 cents per pound to a whopping 26.5 cents per pound.

Now, the companies had only two options: either halt the production and wait till the sugar prices go down or stockpile the sugar as a precaution even though of the higher prices. And Mr.Bradham chose later. Thus, he faced a huge loss as the market recovered and the prices of sugar went down as low as 2 cents per pound.
Even though trying to grow the company again, Bradham never recovered. And unfortunately, no one was now ready to invest in the company. Consequently, the company went bankrupt in 1923. Roy C. Megargel who was a Wall Street investment banker purchased the trademark of the company and the rights of the Pepsi-Cola formula. Celeb Bradham went back to be the pharmacist. 11 years later, Bradham died.

RISING OF PEPSICO

Although in 1928, Megargel reorganized the firm as the National Pepsi-Cola Company he had declared bankruptcy in 1931 due to the losses. In 1931 that is in the same year, Megargel met Charles G. Guth, who had just recently taken his post as president of Loft Inc., a New York-based candy and fountain store. He was finding a new soft-drink.

When Megargel told about the Pepsi-Cola company, Guth promised him to resurrect it but in return, he would be the owner of 80 percent shares of the company. He signed an agreement with Megargel. Then Guth canceled Loft’s agreement with Coca-Cola, modified the Pepsi-Cola and re-introduced it in the market as the Pepsi.
Soon, the company skyrocketed as the price of Pepsi was just 5 cents for 12-ounce bottles. Also, one of the factors was that its quantity was twice as much as given by Coco-Cola in 6-ounce bottles. It also became a hit (which was totally unexpected!) as its "Nickel Nickel'' radio jingle became the first to be broadcast coast to coast.

PEPSICO: NEW GENERATION

Soon, as the years passed the company started to grow more and more. Even though it had its other ups and downs, fortunately, they didn’t hit with a tornado of loss that happened during or you can also say after World War II.

Now this company has many food products like Lays Potato Chips, Doritos, Quaker Oats, etc. and beverages like Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Diet Pepsi, Mirinda, etc. which may I add is that famous that from a child to adults, everyone knows them.
Moreover, the company has also collaborated with many other companies on various occasions. And now PepsiCo is growing more and more but one thing has not changed through these years is its competition with Coca-Cola.
